LCR Gigs : Bowling For Soup Bids Farewell Tour 2013

event image

What: LCR Gigs

Where: LCR

Starts: 19:30:00

How much?:

£20.00 Advance

Bitter sweet will sum up the announcement that this autumn’s BOWLING FOR SOUP shows will be their ‘Goodbye’ to the country that, for well over a decade, has been their adopted home. The BOWLING FOR SOUP BIDS FAREWELL TOUR will be their final shows on UK soil, but don’t for a second think you’re getting rid of them that easily!

BFS frontman Jaret Reddick is quick to assure fans that this is not the end. “We’re all excited about the future and what’s next. Honestly, it opens up the whole world for us! If you’re a fan of Bowling For Soup, this really is better news than it seems. You may not be seeing us in person as much, but you’re definitely gonna have more new songs.”

With almost twenty years as a band, the past fifteen constantly on tour, life on the road has begun to hit hard on the Texan Power Pop maestros, who will be celebrating their 20th Anniversary next summer.

“The UK has given this band everything, so I’m being honest about our reasons. We still love being Bowling For Soup but touring really does begin to take its toll on both you and your family after a while.” reveals Reddick. “We want to go out on top! We have seen too many bands on our level run it all into the ground. I can't do that to BFS, to my friends, or to the fans.” he continues truthfully.

Those fans have been the life blood to the band, whose infectious radio friendly hits ‘Girl All The Bad Guys Want’, ‘1985’ and ‘High School Never Ends’ have become the benchmark for rock music video channels. Even in a climate when many bands struggled in an unpredictable music industry, Bowling For Soup effortlessly toured and recorded with success thanks to a loyal fanbase who continue to support them year after year - this tour is all about them.

“We want this final tour to be a celebration of what we’ve achieved in the UK for the past thirteen years. There’s no way I would have believed we’d have been able to do this for so long. This band, and everything we’ve accomplished, is so important to us, that we never wanna look back on it and think we took it too far.”, Jaret admits.

With a brand new, fan funded album set for release in September; this will be just the start of a whole host of Bowling For Soup productivity. Next year the band aim to release a re-recorded Greatest Hits along with an album of covers to celebrate their landmark 20th Anniversary in June 2014.

Unlike previous BFS tours there will only be one opening band, to be announced in late April, so fans can expect the biggest Bowling For Soup live set EVER! Alongside the bands hit filled catalogue they promise a whole host of songs not heard for sometime. If there was ever a Rock Show not to miss, this is the one!

Reddick finds it easy to sum up what the most important thing he’s taken from a career of performing in the UK “It’s the easiest answer and the most truthful thing. I know for a fact that every single person who comes to our show leaves with a smile on their face that lasts two or three weeks. Knowing we’ve created that many memories, for both the fans and for ourselves, is just the best feeling in the world.”

LCR Gigs : BLUE

event image

What: LCR Gigs

Where: LCR

Starts: 19:30:00

How much?:

£18.50 Advance

Older, wiser, stronger….. Thirteen years on from the day they came together and Blue are on top form, possibly at their best. Accomplished singer songwriters, star performers and still very easy on the eye, the boys have stepped gracefully into manhood with charisma, style, charm and camaraderie. With just over a decade of experience, Blue know their game and how to play it well.

Lee Ryan, Antony Costa, Duncan James and Simon Webbe are one of the few boy bands to come out of the 90’s who can lay claim to a bond that’s as solid now as it was then. They’ve endured the ups and downs of critical acclaim, flown high at the top of the charts, bared their souls in the tabloids, made the mistakes we’ve all made and throughout it all their relationship has stayed firm and true. A frisson of excitement is rippling through their camp as the now grown up Blue, no longer merely a boy band are to take to the road once again, with a full schedule for 2013 which will delight their global fans and is certain to attract new audiences along the way.

Blue are one of the most successful British acts of the last decade. The band have sold more than 15 million albums worldwide, with all three of the band’s previous studio albums having reached the #1 slot. Blue have also toured virtually every country in the world and performed live with the likes of Sir Elton John and Stevie Wonder.

In 2005, Blue took a well earned break to pursue separate interests, completing solo albums, excursions into musicals, theatrical roles in London's West End, TV careers and the set up of some very successful business ventures. It was a journey of individual discovery and one, which bought all band members a good degree of personal acclaim. Never far apart and at the request of their fans, Blue reformed for one show in London, with Capital FM in 2009. The taste of performing together and their unified success once again at their heels, Blue went on to represent the UK in 2011 at the Eurovision Song Contest, where they were a favourite of the European voters and thereafter began work on their fourth studio album due for release later this year.

Blue have been working with the two time Grammy winner RedOne (Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, Pitbull) creating an album that defines who they are today. The creative journey continued with Wayne Hector & Cutfather (Britney Spears, Pussycat Dolls, James Morrison, Nicki Minaj) to produce varied pop songs with a musical maturity, tailored to the new Blue. Their trademark style is still present, a mix of emotive ballads and energetic tracks for the dance floor, but their new found maturity also makes it’s presence known in their smooth performance style and seemingly effortless writing ability to pen songs that just sound oh so good!

Playing the album Electric IN FULL and more

The Cult have announced “ELECTRIC 13”, a worldwide tour that will visit ten UK cities this October.

As LOVE LIVE was such an incredible experience we have decided that performing the ELECTRIC album, an event that has been demanded by our fans and followers as the perfect live set to play in 2013.” - Ian Astbury, The Cult

Born out of the ashes of the UK post-punk scene, The Cult evolved to become one of the most influential and controversial rock bands of the late 20th century, selling millions of albums, headlining venues worldwide, infusing innovative possibilities into the worlds of music, art and fashion and quickly ascending through the ranks of the indie music world to achieve global status.

In 1987, The Cult released “Electric”, an album of stylistic change that aimed the band straight at the heart of the rock market. Recorded in New York City at the legendary Electric Ladyland studios and filled with the energy of the dirty NYC streets, together with a young producer named Rick Rubin, who resonated more with the hip hop world of The Beastie Boys, Run DMC, and Public Enemy; the band delivered an recording that has gone on to become one of The Cult’s most successful and influential albums, and as a follow up to "Love ", kicked the door wide open to a passionate new audience.

“Electric” went on to become the band’s first Platinum album. They quickly captured media attention featuring heavily in music and fashion magazines as well as becoming an MTV staple after dark and where spun heavily on radio coast to coast. Electric was supported by an incident filled world tour with Guns N’ Roses as the opener in North American.  Beginning in January of that year, The Cult headlined in the U.K., Europe, the U.S., Canada, and Australia, opened select dates for Iggy Pop and David Bowie, returning at the end of the year to sell out Wembley Arena and Brixton Academy in London.

The Cult will perform “ELECTRIC”, raw and unfiltered on tour in 2013, an event branded as ELECTRIC 13. This will be a hot ticket as The Cult have never performed the album in its entirety. The live show will also include a second set pulling from the band’s eight other studio albums.

LCR Gigs : Daughter

event image

What: LCR Gigs

Where: LCR

Starts: 19:00:00

How much?:

£15.00 Advance

Daughter started life in 2010 as an outlet for Elena’s musings. After recording a ‘Demos EP’, Elena joined forces with Igor, then fellow classmates studying music at college. A four-track EP, His Young Heart, was self-released in April 2011, and with Remi completing the line-up soon after, The Wild Youth EP was released in late-2011. On the strength of these releases alone they have gained a loyal fanbase, which continues to grow as public and media alike discover their charms. With tickets for Daughter’s first major UK tour long sold out and recent single ‘Smother’ playlisted at Radio 1, 6Music and XFM, it’s clear this is a band whose star is on the ascent.

If You Leave is Daughter’s debut album. Recorded over a period of months at home and in various spaces around London, it was produced by Igor with additional production from Rodhaidh McDonald (The xx, Adele) and Jolyon Vaughan Thomas, and mixed by Ken Thomas (Sigur Ros, M83) at High Bank Studios.

Less of a statement of intent, these songs are more a snapshot of a year in Daughter’s short life. Lyrically, Elena plumbs the depths of her psyche to reveal her innermost thoughts, finding catharsis in expounding those internal demons. There may be little light relief here, but the personal themes have universal appeal; tales of doubt, insecurity, fear, anger and loneliness all take centre stage. Musically, Daughter balance an intricate interplay between vocal, guitar and rhythm section. Elena’s vocals are fractured, often delivering savage words with a smoke-tinged whisper. Igor wrestles his guitar to build up a stark and brutal landscape, colliding with Elena’s more structured rhythm guitar. All are punctuated by the jolts of Remi’s minimalist drums.

If You Leave is a bold first move for an act still in its infancy, and yet the songwriting displays a maturity that belies their youth. Darkness may prevail on If You Leave, but the future looks extremely bright for Elena, Igor and Remi.

LCR Gigs : Black Star Riders

event image

What: LCR Gigs

Where: LCR

Starts: 19:30:00

How much?:

£22.50 Advance

In October 2012 Thin Lizzy announced that they would not be recording new material under the Thin Lizzy monicker. The last incarnation of the band – Scott Gorham, Brian Downey, Darren Wharton, Ricky Warwick, Damon Johnson and Marco Mendoza – would be looking to form a new project.

Step forward Black Star Riders…

Today sees the announcement of the new band formed by Thin Lizzy alumni Ricky Warwick (vocals), Scott Gorham (guitar), Damon Johnson (guitar), Marco Mendoza (bass) with new addition Jimmy DeGrasso on drums (Alice Cooper, Megadeth, David Lee Roth, Suicidal Tendencies). The change in personnel came about as Brian Downey didn’t want to commit to the touring cycle a new album would entail and Darren Wharton wanted to concentrate on Dare and other music and film projects.

Black Star Riders is set to enter the studio in Los Angeles in January 2013 to start recording their debut album with the legendary Kevin Shirley (Led Zeppelin, Iron Maiden, Aerosmith, Rush). The album will feature material the band wrote whilst touring as Thin Lizzy and the sound retains that classic feel but is very much its own as well. The Black Star Riders record is the next step in the evolution of the Thin Lizzy story.

“We are all very excited about the music that we have created for Black Star Riders. The synergy between the five of us has been phenomenal and I can’t wait for the world to hear these songs.” Ricky Warwick

The new, as yet untitled, album will be released in May 2013 through Nuclear Blast – the label behind acts such as Anthrax, Nightwish and Meshuggah. Black Star Riders are one of the first bands signed by Monte Conner – the former Roadrunner A&R guru who has signed acts such as Slipknot, Machine Head, Sepultura and Rush. Conner recently joined Nuclear Blast as the president of Nuclear Blast Entertainment, a new U.S. partnership he co-founded with Nuclear Blast owner Markus Staiger.

Says Conner: “As a lifelong Thin Lizzy fan, I was floored by this line-up’s new material. Not only do the new songs sound like Thin Lizzy but they sound like CLASSIC Thin Lizzy. Black Star Riders totally captures the essence of what was great about the original band while at the same time adding something totally fresh and modern. Even when I heard the band decided to change their name, my interest in signing them did not waver for one second.”

The band are looking to support their May album release with European festivals shows in the summer of 2013 and follow this up with worldwide touring. The set list will consist of material from the new album and classic Thin Lizzy material.

LCR Gigs : The Damned

event image

What: LCR Gigs

Where: LCR

Starts: 19:30:00

How much?:

£18 Advance

The Damned have had all the punk firsts. First to have a single. First to tour America, first to split and the first to reform. They have incorporated many different styles into their music and image, including: garage rock, psychedelic rock, cabaret, and the theatrical rock of Screaming Lord Sutch and Alex Harvey!

The Damned were formed in London, England, in 1976. The group's original members found each other while performing in an assortment of short-lived outfits during punk's initial days.

Brian James (a founder member and guitarist) christened the group The Damned after a 1969 movie of the same name. It was also a name said to be descriptive of the band's hapless state of affairs at the time.

The group rehearsed for six weeks before playing their first show on July 6th 1976, as an opening act for the Sex Pistols at London's 100 Club. The Damned quickly earned a reputation as a viable act on the circuit.

Although The Damned have had a turbulent history, there is no doubt that their music and attitude still prevail with all the energy of that original 1976 line-up, and their back catalogue of 8 studio albums have endured the test of time... and whatsmore, they've outlasted most of their 70's punk contemporaries!
