Clubs FAQs

Each year we survey UEA students, and receive questions about all of the aspects of what we do at the Union of UEA Students. This is great for us to know what students are thinking, and we aim to answer as many of these queries as possible, so if you have a further question, just shout!
1. Why is SAM so expensive?
UUEAS Sports Association Membership is one of the cheapest in Athletic Unions across the country. SAM goes part of the way to funding Sports clubs activities, which are then subsidised further by the Union. What this creates is one of the best funded sets of Sports Clubs in UK Universities
2. Can I get a refund after joining a club, as I have been told the club is full, both for the club and SAM fees?
If you have problems getting refunds on either club or SAM joining fees if a club is full, please email me at [email protected] for advice
3. Why are there not more beginners clubs, or clubs just for fun?
Most clubs tend to incorporate both beginners and more advanced teams into their structure. The University also runs the ziggurat program, which serves to give students a chance to try out new sports, as well as representing their school of study
4. The popular clubs are funded more, why?
Clubs which have a higher amount of active members, tend to require more equipment to function effectively. However there are a number of rules which govern how Clubs and Socs are funded. These are under review this year to ensure they are as fair as possible.
