I.T. problems for SCI students
Some students have been experiencing problems with the central filestore today. We are working with the University to provide as much information as possible so that students are fully up to date with what is going on. The most recent statement from ITCS and the Faculty of SCI is detailed below:
“Further to our last update regarding the issues with accessing the Central File Store and Squirrel Mail for SCI students - a workable fix has now been identified by our hardware vendors (IBM).
Under the advice of IBM, and to allow IT staff to implement the fix, we will need to take ALL Student Central File Stores & Squirrel Mail offline at 5pm today for an undefined period over the weekend.
Can you please ensure that if you are working on any documents at present that you save and exit your work by4.45pm today to avoid any potential loss of data.
You will be able to continue using University PC’s during the works, and access to Outlook email, and the Internet will not be affected.
We apologise for the continued disruption, and a further service update will be issued when the works are complete.”
Additionally, it is noted that deadline extensions have been offered as a result of this. These are as followed:
For Science students ONLY, Coursework deadlines in the period from, and including, Wednesday week 4 to Tuesday week 6 will be extended by 1 week.
For SCI students who are enrolled on modules in other Faculties you will need to complete an extension request form and a one week extension will be given.
The Union will be updating students as much as possible. If you have any further questions, please email Meg Evans on [email protected]
