Housing scam- don't get caught!
The Union of UEA Students would like to warn students about a housing scam that has occured at other Universities.
The scam targets students looking for new accommodation. This is done through websites such as “homes 4 students” or “Gumtree”. The victims choose a house then transfer large amounts of money via Western Union or money transfer to supposedly pay for a deposit and never see the money again.
In the past a couple of UEA students have been conned but we are not aware of any recent occurrences. The Union would like to urge all accommodation seekers to use caution before paying out any money.
