The Union's Advice Centre staff can offer advice on just about anything. On this page you can meet the team.

Jo Spiro
Student Support Services Manager

"Hi, I’m Jo Spiro. I manage the Advice Centre and Home Run (the Union’s private sector housing bureau) and ensure that the landlords comply with our Minimum Standards and deal with any related complaints.

I also make sure that relevant welfare and academic concerns coming to the Union Advice Centre are fed through to the elected officers so they can take these issues forward and lobby the University on your behalf."

Lucy Scott, Rachel McGrath and Ruth Wing
Union Advice Workers

"My name is Lucy and like Rachel and Ruth I am available to offer confidential advice on a wide range of issues. The team are all really friendly and approachable so if you do have a problem or question please contact the Union Advice Centre and myself or one of my colleagues will do what we can to offer you advice."

"I am Rachel Mcgrath – one of the Advice Workers in the Union Advice Centre. We offer advice on a wide range of issues, including academic appeals and housing problems. You can book an appointment to see me at the Advice Centre reception. We can also give advice by e-mail or phone."

"Hi, I’m Ruth, one of the Advice Workers in the Union Advice Centre. If you contact the Union Advice Centre with a problem and are booked an appointment you will see either me or my colleague, Rachel McGrath. I think it’s fair to say that between us we have a great deal of experience with the difficulties students can face, so if you are having any problems, please don’t hesitate to contact us."

Kara
Home Run Administrator

"I’m Kara the Home Run administrator. My role mainly entails working with landlords and agents that want to advertise properties to UEA students. I ensure they have provided me with up to date safety documents and have agreed to the Home Run's Minimum Standards. Once they’ve done this they can become an accredited Home Run landlord. I answer enquiries from prospective students so they can access the Home Run list when looking for accommodation in Norwich and approve postings on the Home Run message board. I also deal with enquiries from UEA students and where necessary I refer students to an Advice Worker."

Lydia
Advice Centre Administrator and Receptionist

"My name is Lydia, the Union Advice Centre Administrator and Receptionist, and probably the first person you see when coming in to the Advice Centre. I will try to resolve any query you may have, but if I do not have the answer I can arrange an appointment with one of our Advisors or sign-post you to someone who can help. Come and visit us – we have lots of information and would be pleased to see you."
