demonstation about the future of education - ACT NOW

Dear students at UEA,

We need you!  Please come and demonstrate with hundreds of students in Cambridge – we’re putting on a free bus to get there!

Many of you participated in the Wall of Debt in the first week of term, looking at the impact of student debt on your time at University and the potential problems that extending fees have on your UEA experience.  Yesterday, the Government minister responsible for Universities admitted that they’d got the budget wrong for the amount of grants that so many students depend on to go to Uni, and he’s decided to cut £100 million worth of grants for next year’s students – approximately 10% of new students will be affected.  You can read more about it here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/education/7697171.stm

We’re joining millions of students around the UK to ask that the Government stops fiddling with the fees and grants system every year and accepts that it’s broken – just as students are broke.  The Government will start a review of University fees early next year and it’s vital that students are not left out of the debate.

GET INVOLVED!

On Wednesday, November 5th (next week!)  we'll be joining students from all over East Anglia to demonstrate in Cambridge to make some noise and get the Government – and media’s - attention. We need as many students as possible to come along and join us in marching through the centre of Cambridge, waving placards and banners.  The best bit?  Your Union is providing free buses to get you there!

It's going to be noisy and a lot of fun - we're hoping to attract some media attention!

-----
ACT NOW!
All you need to do is pop along to the Box Office in the Hive to get your ticket. We are going to be doing tickets on a deposit basis - leave a deposit of £5 with the Box Office and LOOK AFTER YOUR TICKET and we'll give you the money back when you get on the bus!  We need to know numbers by tomorrow (Friday 31st), so please head over there as soon as possible!
----

We will be leaving UEA campus on coaches just after 9.15am on Wednesday 5th, and leaving Cambridge at about 4pm in the afternoon.  There should be at least an hour of free time once the march has finished.

GOT LECTURES / NOT THE PROTESTING TYPE?
Join the event on facebook here (http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=40715762436&ref=ts) anyway - we're going to need all the help we can get with making placards and sorting out banners and coming up with some amazing chants!

On November 5th students all over the UK and the world will be turning out to protest - make sure you're part of it!
