Match Report: UEA II v Norwich City III

Match Report: Sunday 20th January 2008
Norwich City III
2:3
UEA II
Mike(2)
Adam

With two tough fixtures remaining against Dragons and Ice, UEA II badly needed a win against a City side that looked suspiciously better than the side we had so easily dispatched earlier on in the season. The opening exchanges were tense, with neither side giving many chances away for the first few minutes, despite some classy movement from Adam and co. Adam also contributed to the game by sending a City player to A&E with what some described as the worst korfball injury they’ve ever seen. Unfortunately this only seemed to spur on the opposition, scoring two quick fire goals.

Within a few minutes of getting into attack, Mike ‘The Goal Machine’ Lavine had scored a mid-range shot showing the 3rds kids a perfect example of the hop-step shot that we had practiced all week. Almost instantly from the restart, Mike had another, this time with a runner. Adam completed the first half turnaround with a deft long shot that he had been threatening to score for a long time. Feeling optimistic at 3 – 2 up, coach Paul decided to sub on Harry for his 2nds debut at half time.

The second half was an ill-tempered and gritty affair, which was in no way helped by the shocking state of the court causing injury after injury for both sides. No goals were actually scored all half, despite some promising attacking from UEA. The defence never looked in trouble, especially with Alison intercepting every ball that came near her.

All in all, a very hard fought win for UEA II is especially pleasing to see, as everyone showed plenty of passion which had been lacking in some previous games. An impressive debut in defence from Harry, and good showings from Alice and Amanda showed that there is strong competition for places in the nationals squad. It is very encouraging for next weekend’s tournament and showdown with Ice. I can only hope that Gareth gets a full game ;-)

Thanks to Jimi for writing the report!
