Match Report: UEA III v Norwich City U16

On Sunday November 11th UEA’s 3rd team had a day of their own to remember, as it saw them earn their first point of the season against a nippy Norwich under 16 team. A frantic start saw UEA fall behind 2-0 inside of 10 minutes. However, Richard Pope soon reduced the deficit meaning UEA went in at half time trailing by only a goal.

Into the second half and UEA’s enthusiastic third team coach Jess Pryor continued to urge the attacking division in the hope of gaining an equaliser, which duly came. Some excellent passing between Adam Everett, Lorna James and Mr Pope culminated with a goal from Emily Keele, her first in UEA colours.

Norwich weren’t finished there however, and another goal for the under 16 side meant that UEA found themselves behind once again. Interestingly, all 5 goals had been scored in the same division up to this point. UEA’s other division continued to work well, using the four corners (which had been drummed into us) to maximum effect. After neat work from Ellie Nash, Matt Unsworth and Harry Low, honorary third team player Amanda Halliday produced an excellent finish to draw UEA level once again.

Another change of ends saw UEA continue to pressurise their younger opponents but to no avail. The game, which was overseen by Swaraj Thancanamootoo, was played in good spirit and the final score line of 3-3 was a fair reflection of events. Let’s hope the confidence gained from this can lead to more of the same and maybe next week a victory!
