Match Report: Norwich City V v UEA III

For the very first time, UEA’s korfball freshers took to the court at the City of Norwich School hoping to impress the assembled masses after just two training sessions. Their opponents, Norwich City 5th team, would prove to be stiff opposition, but by no means did UEA go down without a fight.

In an eventful first half, the 3rds took a two goal lead, only to see it disappear as tiredness from an impressive opening began to take its toll. They went in at the break 3-2 down, but in no way disheartened.

An early second half goal by Norwich City made things even tougher, but to their credit, UEA did not let their collective head drop and battled gamely on against a far more experienced team. The fairytale story very nearly came true as a goal three minutes from time reduced the deficit to a single point, but unfortunately it wasn’t to be on this occasion.

UEA 3rds can, of course, be extremely proud of their first ever competitive korfball match and it was excellent to see such enthusiastic support from the sidelines. Upon leaving the court, it was clear to see that this year’s third team has bucketfuls of potential and with a few more training sessions under their belt, the team can only go from strength to strength under the guidance of Jess and Swaraj.

It would be careless of me not to mention (if pushed) the penalty miss courtesy of UEA coach Phil. For shame, sir, for shame.
