Match Report: UEA III v Norwich City U16

Match Report: Sunday 24th February 2008
Norwich City U16
3:2
UEA III

Gareth
Inge

So for what seemed like the umpteenth time this season the brave UEA III’s stepped up to face all that Norwich pre-school could throw at them. There was confidence in the camp for several reasons the third team was on a rare run of form winning the last three games in a row and even better having supposedly beaten the Norwich U16’s just the previous week. However as the teams lined up it was quickly realised this would be quite a different encounter, the firm handshake, and steely gaze of the 13 year old girl that met captain Ian almost persuaded him to surrender the game then and there but the referee looked as if he might have an issue with this and so the game went ahead.

The game was a tight affair with much Korfball being played, throwing the ball around to each other, people shooting etc… and really against the run of play the U16’s managed to gain two goals no-one really knows quite how. UEA began to rally from the shock however and even better it meant that the thirds star signing Gareth Newman was on the attack. Gareth, signed in the January transfer window in a shock swap deal for a certain Harry Low and a bag of sweets, proved the value of the transfer once more with a superb goal. It looked like the U16’s were going to struggle with the all star UEA attack the girls running their opposition at will. However before the equaliser could be grabbed another opposition goal changed the face of the game once again. Half time happened around this time before or after its hard to say, honestly wasn’t really paying much attention, the coaches advice poured over the UEA team like liquid sex. Tactics, substitutions and advice mingled to form a formula that couldn’t fail but lead to victory and glory!

The second half was a mixed bag suffice to say although Inge scored an excellent long range effort it was not to be. Some would blame the referee for some dubious decisions, not me that’s for sure, but some might (Rob). Gareth literally threw himself in the way of the oncoming opposition (which was penalised) and UEA peppered the opposition post/net thing with shots, but despite some good efforts the final whistle bought an end to the contest and the dream was over for UEA III’s. Overall excellent effort by the team great throwing of the football, important turnovers and a great blue top that was worn to perfection by all. Top Gun Korfing. xxx

Thanks to Ian for writing the report!
