Second Team Nationals

April the 8th played host to the first ever University Second Team Nationals. Fielding a side that had lost only a handful of games in the Norfolk League that included two of the BUSA Nationals victors, UEA had every reason to feel confident going into the tournament, despite Danny opting out in favour of the Spanish coastline and losing Captain Katie to injury in the first game, but such is the depth of the club that there were many talented players perfectly able of filling the gaps.

The tournament started well with UEA defeating a fancied Oxford side 3-1. A scratch Manchester team, including many first teamers, inflicted a defeat, but UEA were winners by default. A narrow victory against Nottingham and an inspired performance that lead to a 7-0 mauling of Bristol ensured that UEA qualified top of their group and set them up for a Semi-Final fixture against Sheffield Hallam.

In almost a carbon copy of the first team's BUSA semi-final, it took UEA penalties to progress to the final, the only difference being in this tournament, the opponents were Sheffield Hallam as opposed to Sheffield Uni. Following suit of the first team charges, UEA held their nerve to progress and earnt the right to play the next half of Sheffield who overcame Oxford in their semi-final match.

The team standing in the way of UEA and a momentus treble boasted a BSKS player, one of the best females in Uni Korfball, who was only playing in the tournament as she was unable to attend the BUSA competition in March, so it was far from a forgone conclusion. However, despite the one goal margin in the final scoreline, UEA looked assured and comfortable and never looked liked letting the chance of securing a treble for the UEA Korfball Club.
