STAR SPRING SEMESTER

yo dudes,

just a round up of our plan for this term...

Tuesday 1st Feb- we are going to the red cross discovery club, to find out more about getting involved- if you want to come along then please let ed know- ( volunteers@uea.ac.uk) as we have to arrange transport before hand, but limited places in taxi so let us know asap.

Feb 17th is STAR action day. We planned take over the square, hanging washing lines with myths and facts about refugess attached and also we hope to attched hanging on the line famous celebreties who were refugees/aslum seekers. Lots of STARs and pants shall also adorn the washing lines. We will also be having a stall in the hive that day to give more infomration about what we are campaigning about! SO we need people to help on the day and also help i the forthcoming weeks making Stars t shirts etc to hang on the line!!

Tuesday Week 5 We also shall be having a party for the discovery club, possibly week five/ six (to be arranged with red cross!) the funds for this will come for the xmas cards profits...

March the 8th is Worlds Womens day and along with amnesty internation and the UEA womens officer we shall be be raising awarness of violence against women in differnt parts of the globe. We hope to have wreaths, attached to the wall appraoching outside the LCR, each wreath will hihglight the situation of women in differnt countries, we also hope to have a giant wreath. 75% of refugess are women and children and many vitims of war, subject to terrible violence and opression, we hope to raise awarness of some of these issues.

Also in the first week back from easter... we are going to swim in the sea for a refugee raising money for a project trying to gte computers for young male assylum seekers to tearch them new skills!

phew,... thats it for now, but do let us know if you can help out/ making things and also if you want to come to the disocvery club next tuesday! cheers Katie,Nin Mark xx

SO FAR...

This term STAR has got off to a brilliant start! With a good introductory meeting Star has gone on to include meetings with speakers in from Norfolk constabulary talking about refugee victims of crime and a stall in the the Hive illustrating the pleight of unaccompnaied minors.

In the next couple of weeks we should be planning our christmas campaign called Under a tree for a refugee!! where people will hopefully donate gifts or food to refugees under a tree in the spirit of christmas!

Finally there are talks of a christmas charity fair in a few weeks where clubs and societies will come together to raise money for charities of their choice..and of course star will be doing their bit! So any ideas welcome! just click on communicate and leave a message on the board if you have any thoughts!

Thats all folks Hope to see you soon! Nin (Secretary)
