Useful information for those of you running your clubs and socs.

Socials!!

Sportsnight

If you want to have a social event at the Union for your sports clubs then this is the way to go about it. They are a good idea to raise the profile of a club, and will also hopefully raise funds for your club.

The way it works is that a club (or maybe a combination of 2 or 3 smaller ones) pays the expenses of the evening up front. That includes security staff, disco equipment and possibly a DJ. Then the club makes posters to advertise their night and all clubs help each other by selling tickets. Any profit of the night goes to the club/clubs that put in the effort of running the night. The best part of the night (beside being able to drink for longer) is that YOU run it. If you don’t want to hire a DJ then the ents staff will show you how to use the equipment and you bring along your own CD’s, making you guys the DJ’s for the night-it could be dangerous! You can also be really imaginative and make your nights themed or simply get people playing party games and competing off the pitch/court etc.

It’s usually a good night after all the hard work so see the Finance Officer ASAP to book your Sportsnight.

The only way these nights work and will continue to work is if all clubs support each other. If the basketball team goes to the hockey sportsnight then hockey can repay the favour at the basketball night. If more people go they are much more fun. This year we would really like to see more of the smaller clubs running these events, on their own or with other like-minded clubs. These nights are also not exclusive to clubs; societies can attend and even sell tickets too.

Societies Socials

Although there is no Societies Night as such the Union does help societies to hold fundraising events. They can work in pretty much the same way as for sportsnights, so see the Finance or Societies Officer for more information on how to run these events, or if you have any ideas you'd like to try out. The more societies get socials up and running the more regular they will become.

Publicity

There are various ways of raising awareness about your events and what you get up to. Here are just a few:

This website!

You can get a minisite on here if you dont already have one and it can be linked from the main clubs and societies pages. For more information contact the communications officer.

Rabbit

You can get general articles or adverts for events put in rabbit. Again, speak to the communications officer if you are interested.

Rockboxes

There are covered poster-boards in the Hive called rockboxes. One of them is specifically dedicated to clubs and societies. If you want something put up in it then give it to the communications officer.

Plasma screen

You can get adverts put up on the plasma screen in the Hive by making a single power point slide of what you want it to say. This can then be given to the communications officer who can make sure that it is displayed.

Media

Livewire, Concrete and Nexus are usually happyto help you promote your cause. Contact them here if you need their help.
