UNION DEMOCRACY

Students are the most important part of Union democracy, and can have the final say on what the Union does.

  1. Policy ballot - a referundum in which all UEA students can vote. Called on specific issues.
  2. Union Council - a bit like Parliament for the Union, with elected student reps from all Schools, clubs and societies. Meets during termtime.
  3. The Executive - twelve elected students who are responsible for representing you, and for running the Union and its campaigns.
  4. Management Committee - the committee which looks after the day-to-day running of the Union.
  • The policy of the Union is decided by UNION COUNCIL or by a policy ballot of all students. Click here to find out more about Union Council.
  • The Union's accounts and budgets for the year are approved by Union Council in the autumn semester.
  • The Union has a constitution which guides its day to day actions. The constitution is determined by Union Council.
  • All Students' Unions are guided by the 1994 Education Act which restricts Unions to only campaigning on issues that affect students as students.
