National Representation

logos05

The Union of UEA Students is affiliated to the National Union of Students (NUS), a national organisation campaigning for students at a national and international level.

As with the Union of UEA Students, the main focus of NUS is representation. Just our Union may lobby UEA to implement measures such as unified coursework penalties or a full induction week, NUS uses its collective voice to lobby government and national organisations over national issues such as tuition fees and student housing legislation.

Founded in 1922, NUS is a network of several hundred Student Unions, Guilds and Associations across the UK, which in turn represent 5.2 million UK students. Rather than each of these 5.2 million students being an individual member of NUS, each Student Union is a member of NUS.

Both higher education (universities) and further education (sixth form colleges) institutions can become members of NUS, with two-thirds of its members being further education Unions.

NUS’s mission is to: “constantly improve the lives and experiences of students in the UK:

  • by ensuring their voice is heard and effectively represented;
  • by developing democratic and strong students' unions;
  • and by providing collective benefits and access to information for all students.”

NUS achieves this through a number of ways. Click on the links at the top of the page to find out more.

You can find out more about all these areas of NUS and more by taking a look at their website
