Drink spiking

Drink spiking is when a drug is added to your drink without you knowing. These drugs may have no colour, taste or smell. Here are some precautions you can take to make sure you are not a victim of drink spiking.

You can take special measures such as:

Buy your own drinks
Avoid drink sharing
Keep an eye on your drink
If do feel drowsy or suddenly ‘out of it’ go to someone you can trust and get them to take you to a safe place.

Drink spiking does not happen on an everyday basis and it is not our intention to worry and alert people unnecessarily. However, it is an issue that we do need to be concerned about, and it is an issue that does occur.

Take a look at some common misconceptions!

You can now buy small testers to put in your handbag on nights out, so that if you have left your drink unattended (if for only a couple of seconds) you can test whether it is OK. These are available from the pharmacy counter in Boots, priced £1.50 for three. The safest way to be sure that your drink is harm-free.
