Energy Action Day at UEA

Friday 22nd April 2005

cred

CRed is proud to be pioneering the first UEA Energy Action Day, April 22nd 2005. The day aims to highlight the extra mile we can all go within our work places to limit wasted energy and hopes that the day will result in ‘real’ actions.

If you work in an office ask yourself the following common sense questions

  • Are there unnecessary lights on in your room?
  • Has the printer been left on?
  • Are you taking the lift even though you could use the stairs?
  • Have you shut down your computer?
  • Is your flat screen monitor turned off at the mains? (The monitor is supplied power through an adaptor so even though your monitors off, it’s still using electricity. If possible please turn it off at the mains)

All these little things add up. If we all make the effort we can save huge amounts of energy and help mitigate the effects of climate change.

The Energy Action Day inspired a 20% reduction in energy use across UEA campus. The biggest energy saver was the registry, who achieved a 30% reduction! That's a lot of money and carbon dioxide saved.

This is how much energy can be saved if only we are mindful of our energy use. Take action to cut your carbon dioxide emissions everyday.

CRed would like to thank all those who have offered their support as Energy Champions for the 22nd of April. If you would also like to help with this or any future CRed event please email cred@uea.ac.uk or call Matt Taylor on 01603 592 838.
