“So why do we need a full Freshers Week?”

For many coming to University, it means leaving home for the first time and coming to a new city. You would not start a new job after moving house, why should leaving home for the first time and coming to University be different?

We are not calling for fewer lectures, but more time for students to settle in and make friends, both in halls and in any clubs or societies they may choose to join.

A student's support networks, friends and links with the Students' Union are made in Freshers Week

Students need a week to settle in while they register, go to their school reception and meet their personal tutor. Then start lectures on the following Monday for a FULL 12 WEEKS OF LECTURES not 11 and a half.
