Your Right, this Union is not run "for the students", its run for the students who are part of the union! They just do things to make themselves feel important, and to have something that looks good on their future CV.

Should have been "Hear Hear" - it's a contraction of "Hear him, hear him".

Originated in parliament, now it's use is widespread and is often said with ironic intent.

Clitto you must correct these fundamental errors of diction if you want your opinions to have any true salience.
