To ALL you caring, sharing hippy folk out there!! A small university, hid away in the East of England, boycotting Coca Cola and Nestle, is not gonna affect fuck all!! I don't know whats in it for you, whether you just wanna feel important in this big, big world, or you think the big bad corporations are gonna think... "hmmm... we're a bit gutted UEA have boycotted our products, what shall we do about it??"
Do any of you people even wonder why the attendance of the voting is so low?? Firstly, not many people actually care! Secondly, even if they do care, they don't know anything about it!!
The only reason you win the votes, is because you go around picking on poor freshers who are probly still hungover from night before, and tell the twisted truths about Coca Cola, or old news about Nestle, and dupe them into voting for you!!
Being a 2nd year, I live off campus, as do the majority of 2nd & 3rd years, and have failed to see any campaigning goin on around highly populated student areas!! You people make no attempt to let people know your argument, and putting on a lecture at 8pm does not count!! By that time, freshers are out on piss or chillin, n everyone else is at home, OFF CAMPUS!!
Surely if you wana enforce a boycott, you should have to get of your own backs, and get the backing of 20% of the students, n thats being generous!! Or have a minimum turn out of 35% (5,000 out of 14,000) or the vote is deemed invalid, and not a true representation of the student population!!
Coz lets face it, around 5% of students wanted a boycott, and it got enforced, with a 9% turnout!! Thats not democracy, its a bloody shambles!!
After all, "THE STUDENT UNION IS RUN BY THE STUDENTS, FOR THE STUDENTS!!" , so a boycott should be representative of the students!!
