Medics Marathon

A gang of 25 fighting-fit medical students at the University of East Anglia are to get their running shoes on for the Berlin Marathon in order to raise money for kids with cancer.

The Norwich students have been training hard for months in preparation for the gruelling 26 mile run which takes place on 28th September 2008 in Germany’s capital.

But it’ll all be worth, says 21-year-old student doctor, Judy Herbert: “Knowing we’re running for such a good cause is a real boost when training gets tough. We chose to run for the charity Children With Leukamia because as medical students we appreciate what a devastating effect the disease has on families. We want to raise as much money as possible to support the research the charity does.”

This isn’t the first time UEA students have gone the distance to help the cause; early in the year some of the students ran in the Barcelona marathon and now there are plans to turn it into an annual event. Another team member, 22-year old medical student Michelle Carey says, “we’re sure Berlin will be a great success, so we’ve decided to get a group of medics going every year to raise money for charity.”
