Hi , We are putting on a production of new work at the edinburgh festival this year, a synopsis is below. we are looking for amatuer actors between the ages of 18-25 to audition for 6 male character roles. Obviously they would have to be available for the run, between 5th and 28th August, we woud provide accomodation in edinburgh. We are looking to carry out auditions in the first week of may and wondered if this was a suitable opportunity for any of your members, or if you could reccommend any other societies that may be interested. Thanks bernie kavanagh feet and fingers theatre company The China Vase A new look at the effect of wars on the young men sent to fight them. Covering the first two world wars and the current war in Iraq this play explodes the myths of heroism and patriotism to show the realities of conflict.
The narrative draws out the issues that effect combatants beyond the limitations of period and geography to show the same characters in each theatre of war. The first act set in WW1 introduces us to the men that fight in every war, from the professional soldier to the new recruit. The night before a major offensive our soldiers come to grips with what this war means to them. The second act is set in 1943 and drive through Italy, we find our characters in a hiatus between armed actions and dealing with its grisly consequences. The third and final act, explodes in a contrast of expectations of war and the reality of life on the streets of Iraq, forcing a re-examination of motives and pre-conceptions.
